The TCR UK Championship is a new to the UK this year but is also a world wide organisation. Ashley got a call late Wednesday evening by Pyro Motorsport team boss Mark Hunt, who was calling on behalf of Verizon Connect Racing and driver, Finlay Crocker. Unfortunately Finlay had over commitments that weekend so Mark the seat need to be filled and Sutton got the call to fill the seat in the new Honda Civic Type-R.
Ashley just managed to make the last session on Friday evening to just familiarise himself with the car as well as the International layout of Oulton Park. It wasn’t long till he found his feet, topping the times on lap three and then better it again by a second on lap ten. He still wasn’t completely comfortable in the car so there was more time to come. Saturday was an action packed day with Free Practice in the morning, followed up by Qualifying and both Races.
“For my first weekend in both the Honda Civic Type-R and the TCR Championship it couldn’t have gone much better. I jumped in the car on Friday and apart from being uncomfortable I felt at home. The Verizon Connect Racing and Pyro Motorsport did a sterling job on delivery me a good car and making me feel at home in my debut weekend.
Each time I strapped myself in we just kept finding time from having more laps under my belt. We topped every timesheet and results sheet from the moment I got in the car. I loved every minute of getting back into a FWD car, it was like jumping on an old bike, you never forget how to do it. TCR has definitely got me interested and I would love to get back behind the wheel of a one!”
